Found posts really fascinating for me. Being a firm believer that contexts change and that one has to adapt, the concept of KM 2008 will be disappearing very soon. But because we are capable and willing to connect to a changing construct, we will adapt and show more effective behavior.  And is that not what knowledge management and learning is all about on an organization, professional and personal level?

  1. I see two very different threads within knowledge management:

    1 – The facilitation of the capture and exchange of knowledge within an organization. A lot of the work of KM has been focused in this area. It was a necessary addition to the management toolkit as we moved into the knowledge era. There is a lot of process and execution involved here.

    2 – The leveraging of organizational knowledge for increased value. A lot of KM work was done without understanding this connection–which was to be expected in the early stages. But the tough part about this view of knowledge management is that it is beyond the scope of the job description of most that are involved with knowledge management.

    If you want strategic knowledge management, you are really talking about intellectual capital management–managing the entire system of human, relationship and structural knowledge. And you have to include all the knowledge that is captured in processes and software (the most important component of structural capital because it is operationalized knowledge).
